The word “solicitor” is often understood to apply to a lawyer or a sales person.
But in the case of mentoring, the solicitor is the one who goes after the feedback.
Feedback is the lifeblood of successful mentoring. Those who grow in mentoring usually ask a few little questions such as these, to solicit important information:
“What is one thing I can do more of–or start doing–that would help most in this situation?”
“What should I do less of–or stop doing altogether?”
“What do you think of what I just said?”
Soliciting feedback really helps mentoring partners become better listeners,
more open participants–and often–better at identifying and solving issues closer to their source.
