Lots of times when someone is being mentored,
the person has difficulty identifying the core issue in problem solving.
Getting clarification can help the person move forward.
Here are some ways to get there:
—ask what seems uncertain or vague to the person
—share your impression of what you’re hearing
—acknowledge how tough the situation might be for that person
—summarize the theme of the person’s story
People seek mentors for support and another pair of eyes and ears
to see and hear what’s really important in specific situations,
helping them “get to the core” so they can take positive action.
